Dr Peter Ridd spoke on the scientific reliability of claims that human activity is irreparably damaging the Great Barrier Reef (GBR). He focused on the 2017 Scientific Consensus Statement on the GBR, which reviewed the scientific knowledge of water quality issues and purported to arrive at a consensus on the current state of that knowledge.

Dr Ridd delivered his lecture in Bundaberg, Mackay, Ayr, Ingham, Innisfail, and Cairns. Lecture dates and venues are shown below.

A video of Dr Ridd’s first Lecture in Bundaberg is available on YouTube. A link to that video is here.

Dr Ridd is a geophysicist with over 100 publications in international journals and over 30 years experience working on the GBR. His research interests include coastal oceanography, the effects of sediments on coral reefs, the development of scientific instruments to measure those effects, geophysical sensing of the earth, and the hydrodynamics of mangrove swamps.

Until he was unlawfully fired by James Cook University (JCU), Dr Ridd worked at the University as an teacher and researcher. He also led the University’s very successful consulting group called the Marine Geophysics Laboratory, which .worked on the development of scientific instruments including sediment deposition sensors, tilt current meters, and mine paste pipe monitors.

Dr Ridd is currently working on applications to agriculture and weed control including automated weed-killing robotics.
